"The Kiss - For the Love of Port", as they say... Created by artist René Vincent, the iconic Porto Ramos-Pinto poster depicts an Art Deco scene of passion and indulgence, featuring two lovers in profile about to kiss, inter- rupted by a Cupid holding up a glass of port between their lips. It symbolizes the irresistible temptation, elegance, and romantic luxury of the Portuguese Port house, founded in 1880.
This Porto Ramos~Pinto Framed Art Poster, estimated circa 1920-1925, appears to be a stone lithograph applied to a linen backing, stretched over a wooden frame and stapled into place.
As with all things vintage, it does show some wear (see photos 6-11 for close-up details), but all in all for it's age it has held up well and is in good condition. There are several "Authentic" traits to this artwork (listed below) therefore, it may very well be an original, however it has not yet been Professionally Auth- enticated or Appraised so please read the description and review the photos carefully before you purchase.
Authentic Traits
- Authentic posters possess a rich, textured appearance from the stone lithography process, unlike the flat, dot-matrix appearance of modern posters ~ This poster does not app- ear to be a dot-matrix
- Original stone lithographs from this period often have a glazed or varnish finish ~ The finish on this poster looks to be glazed
- The original 1920s poster speci- fically features a light blue strip/ sash on the cherub ~ Which this one possesses (shown in photo #2)
- The original prints often feature a tax stamp that appears in black, placed over the letters along the bottom (shown in photo #3)
- Red inked signatures should appear integrated, not stamped on (shown on photo #4)
- Other Reproduction Indicators: Machine-made reproductions often have shiny ink, no linen backing, and lack the detailed, light-blue coloring in the cherub's sash
Frame Dimensions: 20" Tall x 16" Wide x 1.5" Deep.
